My grandfather's grave maker

Woodlawn Cemetery before upkeep

As far back as I can remember my father, told me about his attempts to locate his father’s grave. He explained that he knew which cemetery in Richmond his father was buried in but that there was no marker to indicate the exact location. He also said that the area had long since grown over with grass and weeds.

My father stopped looking for his father's grave due health reasons and lack of mobility. In February of 2000 he died.  With the help of family, I found Woodlawn Cemetery and the general area of my grandfather's grave. Mr. Entzmiger, the current caretaker and owner of Woodlawn Cemetery helped me locate my grandfather's grave.  It wasn't marked.  I purchased a granite memorial and had it placed at the head of his grave.

After sharing the information with my immediate family, I realized the importance of making  it available to all my family members. This website was created to remember my father and to celebrate the heritage of African Americans.

There are two major sections to FindFamilyRoots.com; African American History and Viewer's Families. The Men,  Women,   Churches,  Cemeteries, Schools,  Historic Places and Museums pages explore the familiar and not well known people, places and events in African American History.

The Viewer's FamiliesPosting Pics and Research Assistance/Tips pages were created to assist you in sharing and researching your family history.

I personally visited all the locations, took the pictures, except where indicated, researched the information and now share my findings with you. Visit the website often to learn more about African American history.
