                     Celebrating Family and the Shared History of African Americans

August 2019 marked 400 years since Africans were kidnapped from their homeland, transported to Virginia as cargo and traded to English settlers in exchange for food. In 1607, English settlers established Jamestown, Virginia.  In 1619, the English pirate ship, White Lion landed at Point Comfort, present day Hampton and traded the colonists “20 and odd" Africans for food.
